The picturesque and beautiful town of Kyrenia was the first victim as the Turks pilots, in the morning of Saturday 20th July 1974 begun air strikes throughout Cyprus but mainly the northern coast of Kyrenia, and specifically in the "Five Mile" west of the town of Kyrenia. They focused attack and landing near the village of Agios Georgios Kyrenia. The camps of the National Guard of Cyprus Glykiotissas (in the monastery which is situated 256on infantry battalion) and Acheiropoiitou (where the 190th Squadron tank / infantry battalion) was the landing of Turkish troops were the first victims of Turkish air strikes.
